Greetings Monarch High Students and Parents!
My name is Kristin Kerr Gannon and I joined Monarch High School back in 2013. I've taught social studies in Boulder Valley for over 20 years. Most of my career was spent next door at Monarch K8, where I taught 8th grade US History.
I am thankful to be part of this talented and dynamic social studies department at Monarch High.
In addition to teaching US History, my courses include AP Geography, Government, Geography, and Social Justice (Diversity).
I was born in Houston, Texas- but grew up in the apple country of Wenatchee, Washington. I came out to Colorado to pursue a CSU soccer scholarship (I was a goalie), and ended up attending The University of Colorado, Boulder for The Presidents Leadership academic scholarship program. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in both Humanities and English Literature, before adding a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Between both degrees, I worked a brief stint as a ski instructor in Steamboat Springs. Outside of school, I taught for a nonprofit group called “Girls Leadership ” that works to empower young girls with communication and self-advocacy skills to live as leaders.
I met my husband Dave at “The Sink” at CU. He currently works as a treasury analyst for a Boulder software company. We have twin eighteen-year-olds, Meridith and Harrison (Hal) who are MoHi grads. They are attending CU, Boulder (Go Buffs!). Our family also includes a big black Labrador named “Bear” and a stray cat named Winchell Kitty.
In my free time, I enjoy yoga, hiking, camping, biking, beaches, and time at my mountain cabin.
I am honored to be part of Monarch High’s academic community, and look forward to sharing my love of human geography and American history with these students. We have an exciting and fun school year ahead of us!
Sincerely,
Kristin Kerr Gannon
